The Ark Day School

Our Mission
The mission of The Ark is to provide childcare in a safe, accepting, Christian environment that provides fun, stimulating learning experiences.

Preschool Classes
We have 3 Preschool classes.  The Ducklings is a 2 1/2—3 year old class (children who turn 4 during the school year remain in the class until the Fall).  The Kangaroos and Pandas are 4 year old classes (children who turn 5 during the school year remain that in the class until the Fall).

Philosophy of School
Our emphasis is in creating a Christian atmosphere with a fun, creative learning environment for the children.  Children learn by doing, so our goal is to make everything a learning experience.  We also believe that when children have choices offered to them, they can develop a sense of self worth as they make decisions.

Curriculum
Much of the curriculum is centered around themes.  Activities related to the theme will involve crafts, baking, language arts, movement activities and much more.  Some of the themes covered are:  People of Our World, Nature, Holidays, Seasons, Animals, Health, Art, Music, Families.

Science/Math/Cooking
Children love learning new things about the world around them.  Nature experiences, exploration skills and science experiments will be part of their learning experience.  Math activities include patterning (with colors, clapping, etc.), counting, and measuring.  Cooking involves measuring, counting, and just plain having fun!

Motor/Sensory Skills
For fine motor skills, children will have many opportunities to use crayons, scissors, pencils, play dough, and to draw or write in cornmeal, sand, etc.  They will have the opportunity to use many different art mediums to make their own unique creations.  Large motor skills will be developed as they do movement activities with music, dance, scarves; play in our gymnasium, or play outside in our play yard.

Christian Character Development
The children are introduced to God’s love through Bible stories, object lessons and every day living stories.  The emphasis is on Christian character traits and qualities such as being kind, forgiving others, patience, etc.  Once a week we meet in the church sanctuary for chapel, where all the Preschool meets to sing songs and experience a puppet play, skit, object lesson or story.

Learning Centers
Many of the activities will be set up as centers.  The children will have a choice of what they would like to be involved in.  The centers will include a sensory center, dramatic play, blocks, library, creative art and manipulatives.  There will also be centers rotated monthly.  One of our goals is for the children to learn the joy of reading.  We have created a reading center in every room with comfortable  chairs or cushions to sit back in and read!

Music/Programs
The children will learn a variety of songs that will go along with theme related and/or seasonal activities.  There will be a Thanksgiving Program, a Christmas Program, a Spring Song and Easter Egg Hunt and an End-of-the-Year Program.  These will involve a song presentation by all of the Preschool classes.  Parents and relatives are encouraged to come.

Breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack are provided.
